Do you ever think about Sex? And by that I don’t mean if you ever think about SEX, but if you ever THINK about Sex. In my life I’ve heard enough people say that sexual arousal actually inhibits thinking and because of that sex and thought are opposites. However, I never felt that way. I was always interested in studying sexuality as scientist, as an artist and as a human being.
Let me tell you it has been rather difficult. First it’s not easy to obtain facts because people have a long tradition of hiding their sexuality (or at least some parts of it). I’m not saying it’s wrong to keep private things private, I’m just saying it makes it hard to study. Secondly I’m not even sure if there really is such a thing as “facts” about sex. No matter what you find out and no matter what you say you always seem to end up in one or another group who’s fighting against another group with their very different “facts”. It’s all a big tug of war.
And of course society has a tendency of treating sexual matters as “low”, which means if you’re studying sexuality you must be “low”, too. But my own opinion is still very different. I still feel we need to put much more brainpower in this department. We need to learn more about ourselves, we need to explore, we need to figure out how to give pleasure without abuse, we need to know how to love one another passionately without breaking each other’s hearts all the time. So why not think about sex?
