Usually I don't comment on my own photos, but since there's a lot of controversy about this picture I want to make an exception:

About the model's age:
She's 22. I'm a professional and I work with professional models.

Is this art or not?
I want my viewers to answer this question for themselves, but think about this: Just because an image has the ability to arouse (some) people sexually, does not make it "low art". If you think it does, then you probably think sexuality is low too and in this case I truly hope you get over your prejudice sometime and start to enjoy life.

Despite all the said controversy....This is a naturally beautiful picture of a very attractive young lady. The human body is a work of art all in itself and the this one just so happens to be a female masterpiece!!! It is simple yet bold, bold but not overdone, Nothing added to it to give it a negative impact while it's simplicity speaks volumes. She is perfection at it's pinnacle, innocent yet alluring, clean, classy and elegant (pleasingly graceful and stylish in her appearance). It is truly sad that you must speak out to defend yourself from small minded onlookers but never the less I believe that your art itself should quell the woes all by itself. Have Mercy! :-)

I feel art should elicit a different reaction from each person that views it. This image lends itself to very few reactions. The conversation "is this art?" is a boring one that has been played out time and again since Marcel Duchamp's Fountain. Furthermore, the female nude has almost always been a subject of artwork.

Say what you will, this well lit, well composed, well focused color photograph strikes me as a rather ordinary crotch shot, which illustrates once again that technical perfection does not necessarily produce artistic work.

jon, I respectfully disagree...not about the well lit, well composed part, but rather the ordinary crotch shot portion of your comment.  This particular photographer is very technical in his compositions IMHO and is very much aware of what the true focus of the photo is about.  In my view, which is only one view, is that if he wanted the pic to be just another crotch shot, the lighting specifically would have been from another angle instead of having her crotch in one of the darkest portions of the composition.  Nude women, by their definition are, well, nude and we, the viewer look at all the "good" parts.  But my eye was drawn to her face first (upper third), then her underboob and then yanked to the upper left as the reflection off the pillow pointed to the soft yellow light in the corner.  After that, I did enjoy what this pretty model was so gracious to allow us to see.  Not all that ordinary to me.

Art is very loosely defined. To me, if someone can believe something to be beautiful, it is art, and this is beautiful.

after over 950 comments I don't think you will see mine!
But art is in the eye of the beholder and if that eye is dark and twisted then that is their problem not ours. nice pic, beautiful model and nudity doesn't always mean sex is the next logical action.

I agree with you but it's like people, being discriminated by their race. Art is art and people are people, regardless of how they look. It should be accepted wholeheartedly.

well aesthetic beauty in my opinion can never be called 'low art.' this photo displays everything that is beautiful about the female body. there's not even the hint of porn and what it shows to me is the absolute naturalness of the naked human body. the model does not look nervous nor uncomfortable. in fact, she looks relaxed and at ease with being nude. the way we were meant to be. i think it is absolutely beautiful. and i think the photographer has captured an excellent photo. love it!

I've not read all the controversy over this picture and that of some of your other pictures, but as a keen nude photographer myself, and also for what it is worth I believe you post some of best female nudes here on DA.

Anyone who thinks the human female is not the pinnacle of nature's art really needs to take a long look at themselves.  After-all, as someone else eluded to the continuation of the human species relies on the admiration of the male for a female, there is no getting away from this, this is fact, it's written in our DNA....

However, as humans and through our evolution and restrictions placed by society, there are some individuals who see nudity as something dirty or perverted, well sorry its not, we are all nude under our clothes, its the way we came into this world, and for that to happen a woman would have to be involved (obvious I Know).

Now before I get shot down here, think about it.... I know I've interjected some of my own opinion, but at the end of the day for the human species to continue a man must be attracted to a woman and vice versa - now we have that out of the way, how does that affect this debate.

Well.

I believe a photographer in this genre should be able to celebrate the human female in a way which is sensual, erotic, beautiful, funny sad, elusive, and all things which make up the complex but amazingly beautiful creatures that are women. After-all over 50% of the human population are made up of women, so for those like Stefan here who try to celebrate them in their most natural form should be congratulated and not ridiculed

In my opinion its porn. The model Is a well known pornstar and some of the adult films she's been in are more creative and artistic than this piece. I mean come on, theirs no artistic element or emotional element added by featuring the damn electric outlet.

well maybe she has decided to move away from her old career to something more respectable than porn
nudity does not equal porn its only pornographic if she's engaged in a sexual action such as masturbation or intercourse

To me I enjoy the nude body and nude art and the naked body is not porn. What is being done with the naked body (such as sex, masturbation, touching of genitals, spreading labias) is porn to me. Some people are so uptight that they get offended when a women breastfeeds their child. In my opinion that is ridiculous, but hey what do I know I am not a pro photographer nor model and I do not have an ounce of artistic talent in me.

It is art, people that thin that all art is something else then that is their right I suppose. When nudity or 'sex' is used in the right way (not too explicit or underage model) then it is fine. You cannot change if people think it is something it is not (p--) (no offense) but I suppose art is also meant to make people talk so that is something I suppose.

I think the words you're  looking for are "most stupid" moron stupidest is superlative so can't be used in this context dummy. Obviously you've never seen a porno mag before if you think Porn has to have sexual activity in it.And why would I kill myself lol you're the 1 defending porn, maybe you should look at your wiener and think to yourself "why do I need to look at pornographic images" and then realize its because your nut sack is so deep in your throat that your too pussy to get a girl :icondancingmonkeyplz: I'll give you a Mexican wave goodbye now :D btw you are a joke to me :D

Actually, porn does in fact require some kind of sex. But since you're a pathetic child that lives home with mommy and is obsessed with cartoons (LMAOOOOOOO dragonball?!?!?!?), and an uneducated non-American pig that doesn't know English, you should kill yourself.

Art and Porn are not mutually exclusive. One shades very gradually into the other, with a tremendous overlap that exhibits both, intermixed. There is clearly artistic intent by the photographer shown in this image. There are elements of artistic care, for example in the lighting and the geometry of the layout. The pose, however, is...rather inelegant, and is often seen in work that is more clearly porn. There is an informality to the model's pose that almost makes this seem unstaged, which simultaneously adds to its charm and increases the image's  pornographic feel. So, I allow the photographer his claim to art, but it is as much a carnal effect as an aesthetic one.
